Making morph friendly jest!

Dear Friends,
Today we will work with "MorphMan 4.0" morphing software. The morphing software could be used in many different lenticular projects, such as friendly jests or morphing of one face to another, for example.

"MorphMan 4.0" is professional software with a lot of useful features. You can download a trial 15 days version of this software here.

Today we are going to make a lenticular picture with the friendly jest.

We have to have for this project:

  1. "MorphMan 4.0" morphing software.
  2. "PhotoProjector" interlacing software.
  3. Lenticular sheet 4"x6" (10x15 cm) with lenticules run parallel to short side

We will use the picture of man.

The resolution of this picture is 484 x 726 pixels. That is the same proportion as we need for our lenticular sheet with size 4"x6" (10x15 cm).

Run "MorphMan 4.0" software. The window of "MorphMan" will be opened (picture 2).

Now we have to load the source image. Please, click the buttons File -> Source -> Image… and choose the picture man.jpg (picture 2).

Then let's load the target image. Just click File -> Target -> Image… and choose the same picture man.jpg (picture 3).

We will see something like that (picture 4).

You will see 4 windows inside "MorphMan" software. There are Source, Target, Preview and Project windows. In Source window click the buttons Simple shapes -> Point (picture 5).

In Preview window click the button Go to the last frame. In this case all morphing changes we will be able to see instantly on picture in Preview window (picture 6).

Now we have to add point markers on the source picture. For that just put your mouse pointer on the place you need and click the left button of mouse. You will see that a point marker appears on the source and target pictures. In our case I put 5 point markers around the man's mouth (picture 7).

In target picture place the mouse pointer on the point marker that you want and move it. See the preview picture for control a result (picture 8).

If you will click in preview window on buttons Go one frame back or Go one frame forward you will be able to see all frames in stages of morphing.

Let's save the frames. In Preview window click the button Output options (picture 9).

You will see the Morph options window.

Let's calculate the numbers of frames that we need. I am going to use 60 lpi lenticular sheet for this picture and print on Epson ink jet photo printer with resolution of 720 dpi (dots per inch).

720 : 60 = 12

This printer can print 12 frames maximum. Therefore set up Length frames as 12.

Set up Source proportion and Render as Fast gravity and Interpolate for improving frames quality (picture 9). Click OK.

Then click buttons File -> Create -> Sequences… (picture 10).

Choose the folder for pictures, give the names of files and save them on hard drive of your computer.

Now we have 12 frames that we can use for making morph picture. Open "PhotoProjector" software load our 12 morph frames and make an interlaced file. Then you have to print this file and laminate it by lenticular sheet. And we will get the lenticular morph picture like shown on picture 11. All 12 frames will change each other depending on viewing angle of lenticular picture.
