Making morph pictures
You know already how to use "MorphMan 4.0" software for making a friendly jest, please, see the Issue 6 of this Newsletter. If you downloaded the trial version of this software or bought the working version of this software you probably noticed that this software has many useful features that you can use for making high quality morph pictures. In Issue 6 we used the points for very simple and fast morphing but this software let us to use "Polygon", "Line", "Circle", "Rectangle" and "Layers" features that could be very useful for making more complicated pictures. Actually I do not know any other morphing software that can give so flexible and varied instruments that can help to reach such high quality results.
We could make a lot of types of morphing pictures with "MorphMan 4.0" software but I do not set the task to cover creating of all types of morphing pictures, perhaps it is simply impossible with such advanced software, my goal is to pay your attention to the huge opportunities that are opened using this morphing software for growing your lenticular business up.
Today I would like to show you one more way to make morph lenticular picture that could be very attractive for your customers. I am speaking about morph pictures where one face changes to another face depending on viewing angle.
"MorphMan 4.0" is professional software with a lot of useful features. You can download a trial 15 days version of this software here.
If you will decide to buy that software you can do it using the link Buy Morph Man 4.0.
We have to have for this project:
- "MorphMan 4.0" morphing software.
- "PhotoProjector" interlacing software.
- Lenticular sheet 4"x6" (10x15 cm) with lenticules run parallel to short side
We have the pictures of boy and girl (pictures 1 and 2).
The resolution of these pictures is 512 x 768 pixels. That is the same proportion as we need for our lenticular sheet with size 4"x6" (10x15 cm).
Run "MorphMan 4.0" software. We will see the window like on picture 3.
Now we have to load the source image. Please, click the buttons File -> Source -> Image… and choose the picture boy.jpg (picture 4).
Then let's load the target image. Just click File -> Target -> Image… and choose the picture girl.jpg (picture 5).
We will see 4 windows inside "MorphMan" software. There are Source, Target, Preview and Project windows. In window Source choose Simple shapes -> Point (picture 6).
In window Preview click the button Preview modes and check the Real button. In window Go to frame set the middle number of frame. For example, if a full number of frames is 10 choose the number of frame 5. In this case all morphing changes we will see instantly on picture in window Preview (picture 7).
Let's examine carefully the picture in Preview window (picture 8).
We see both semitransparent images on this picture. And we can notice that eyes, mouths and other parts of faces do not coincide with each others. But for morph picture we need that one face smoothly changes into another. Therefore all main parts of faces have to coincide with each others. Let's do it.
I have changed the images sizes that you will be able to see the pictures better, you do not have to do that. If we place the mouse pointer on one eye of picture with boy and then click we will see that the active point marker will appear on the target image with girl (picture 9).
Now we have to drag this point marker and drop it on the suitable eye of girl (picture 10).
Pay attention that in Preview window the eyes of boy and girl became closer. That is the key how to do the morphing effect. For smooth morphing effect we have to repeat this step as many times as we need and combine all main parts of the faces (picture 11).
As you can see all parts of the faces in Preview window are situated almost on the same places. Click Output options button in the Project window.
Let's calculate the numbers of frames that we need. We are going to use 60 lpi lenticular sheet for this picture and print on Epson ink jet photo printer with resolution of 720 dpi (dots per inch).
720 : 60 = 12
This printer can print 12 frames maximum. Therefore set up Length frames as 12. Set up Source proportion and Render as Fast gravity and Interpolate for improving frames quality (picture 12). Click OK.
Then click buttons File -> Create -> Sequence… (picture 13).
Choose the folder for pictures on hard drive of your computer, give the names of files and save them.
Now we have 12 frames that we can use for making morph picture. All 12 frames you can download as one morph.rar file (566 KB). Open "PhotoProjector" software, load our 12 morphing frames and make an interlaced file. After printing and laminating by lenticular sheet we will get the lenticular morphing picture like shown on picture 14.
Comment: Processes of interlacing, printing, precise adjustment of printed interlaced file and lenticular sheet, and laminating are described in detail in full version of step-by-step manual "How to make high quality lenticular 3D photos and Flip pictures for home and business".

Best regards and many beautiful morph lenticular pictures to all of you,
